Where do I even begin??? Spain was amazing. We definitely had the best time.
Saturday we landed in Porto (Portugal) and Isaac's dad came to pick us up. By the time we arrived at his place in Vigo it was already almost midnight but his Mom had made us a full dinner. So we ate, got changed and met his friends in a park to have a few drinks and socialize BEFORE hitting the clubs. Needless to say it should not be surprising that our heads did not hit the pillow until almost 6am.
That definitely didn't stop us from getitng up bright and early the next morning to drive to Santiago de Compostela to visit this old town. It was beautiful and is host to a large cathedral where Saint James is buried and the destination of thousands of Catholic pilgramages each year. It was absolutely spectacular. The city itself is also quite beautiful. After lunch we headed to a beach in Pontevedra for a much needed siesta and swim in the sea! That night we laid low and had a beautiful tapas dinner by the pier in Vigo. Apparently we were getting an early night by going to bed at midnight.
Monday morning we toured Vigo and headed into the main part of town to do some shopping. It really made me realize how expensive London (and even England to an extent) is... Spain is the home of Massimo Dutti and Zara amongst others which made things extremely cheap. I love shopping. We then met Isaac's family for seafood tapas which was alarming at first but really quite good. I am not going to lie. Isha was WAY braver then me. There was no way I got eat octopus!! We went back to Isaac so he and his family could get ready for the wedding that they were attending that night.
The wedding was in Baiona and so we parted ways to explore the city when it was time for his family to leave. Baiona was definitely a highlight. It was amazing. The beaches, the coastline, the shops, it was fabulous. We walked around for a while until we met Isaac's friend Ruben who was responsible for taking care of us until the wedding was over. Ruben brought us to a BBQ qhich turned out to be with all of Isaac's male friends and pounds and pounds of ribs that they grill over an open fire. It was interesting to say the least. The boys were too initimidated to try out their english and so there was very limited exchange. However highlights included one of the guys introducing himself by saying: "I am the kichenette". He meant cook. Another highlight would have to be right as we left when a guy decided to try talking to us and asked where we were all from. When I said Canada he replied: "You sound like you have a Toronto accent". Turns out he spent a month in Canada and that his English was REALLY good. Thanks dude. As if you couldn't have said that, regardless of how absurd the comment was, hours earlier. We then left the BBQ to meet up with more people, and more importantly all the female counterparts, at a park in Baiona. We had the best time chatting with the girls who were not afraid to use what little English they had - it was a good laugh! Then it was off to the clubs for a night that ended at 7am...
We woke up yesterday afternoon and said good-bye to Isaac's mom and sister and headed to Porto to see the city with his Dad before we left. It was quite beautiful and another port town. We then made out way to the airport for our flight that didn't want to end. I finally made it home after the flight, a shuttle and then a night bus at 3:30 this morning. Needless to say I am QUITE exhausted.
Didn't post too many pics but thought I would post a collection for your viewing pleasure!
