Hey Kel! Remember when we went to the Peak District???
It's true folks. Our mates Mike and Erik took us to the Peak District last weekend! We left on Saturday after my Future Memory rehearsal and headed out on the road. After a 2 hour drive we arrived in the country side where Pride and Prejudice style scenery surrounded us.
When we got to the Hiker's hostel we were told that the nearest pub was a 35 minute walk and we got a taxi number for the way home. We took the 35 min walk (which we thought was an estimate for old slow walkers. It wasn't.) 35 minutes later we arrived at a pub and ordered our meals - good food. We called the taxi guy and he couldn't pick us up and since we were in buck-huck nowhere, there were no other options. Also, there was no cell phone reception. OH MY GAWD! AM I THAT MUCH OF A CITY GIRL?? I NEED MY CELL PHONE AND A TAXIS!!!! Not. Gonna. Happen. Anyways, at 11pm we zipped up our coats and headed back on the dark country roads in the cold led by the light of our cellphones! Ha! We made it back in 24 minutes!! We walked FAST. (Kel, is it funny in retrospect yet???)
Sunday we woke up early and prepared for our big hike of the famous Pride and Pred peak (Stanage Edge). It was incredible foggy so we really couldn't see how high up it was but we brought water and packed sandwiches and were excited. We started the hike at 9:53am and arrived at the summit at...10:02am. So...not exactly the hike I had imagined! On the plus side we had extra time to visit Chatsworth House where scenes from the Kiera Knightly film were...filmed! Then we headed to Dovedale and did another short but sweet hike to a "peak". That hike was about 45 minutes so we felt better about ourselves!! Learning from our mistakes, we drove to a pub for dinner that night!!!
Monday morning we headed back to London to get everyone home. Due to weather and traffic it took us almost 6 hours to get home!!

You would have never walked down that dark road at night if you had seen "An American Werewolf in London".
Forgot to mention the reason we were all so excited for the big hike was everyone around us was dressed in very elaborate hiking gear. We might as well have been on Safari. I can only imagine what those British hikers felt when THEY reached the peak!!
One more thing. We found a maze. It was in the garden of Chatsworth House. How much fun is a garden maze???? SO much fun!
